Timelessness on tour!

After the performance given at the Hautepierre theatre in Strasbourg on 10 November, which many of you attended, Thierry De Mey’s Timelessness will be presented in Béthune on 12 December and then in Tarbes on 15 December 2021.

With this transdisciplinary show for eight percussionists, Thierry De Mey plays as much on gesture as on sound for a great moment of instrumental choreography. Premiered on 29 September 2019 at the Festival Musica, Timelessness is a true “artistic and political manifesto”, in the words of the composer. This show is woven of gestures as much as sounds: in counterpoint to the instrumental pieces, Musiques de table, Silent Must be, Floor Patterns, or Hands, choreographed by Wim Vandekeybus, make the musician’s body the eloquent instrument of a silent music.

We are very happy to be able to perform it at last, after its multiple cancellations due to the pandemic.
We also hope to be able to present it outside our borders in 2022, in Switzerland and Belgium in particular!

The ULYSSES Ensemble and the ULYSSES network took a step forward in 2017, focusing their efforts on young performers in the field of contemporary music. Each year, a new ensemble of young musicians living in Europe is formed and travels to several academies and festivals of the ULYSSES network.

In 2022, the ULYSSES Ensemble will be for the first time an ensemble entirely dedicated to percussion, and will travel from June to October from the ManiFeste Academy to the Time of Music Festival, passing through the Gaudeamus Festival and ending with the Warsaw Autumn Festival.
The ULYSSES Ensemble will be composed of 5 percussionists, accompanied by a percussionist from the Percussions de Strasbourg who will lead and guide the young performers throughout their journey.

Would you like to join the project? Apply here!
Applications are possible until 11 January 2022

Shaker Kami et Myotis V at Hautepierre theater, Strasbourg

One evening, two original creations.
For this evening of concerts at the Hautepierre theatre in Strasbourg, the Percussions de Strasbourg will play two pieces created in 2020:

Shaker Kami is an adventure into the world of minimalist jazz by Nik Bärtsch, its composer. His work is at the intersection of contemporary music and jazz, with influences from funk. In his music, the use of repetition and structures based on interweaving elements hints at the influence of minimalist music, particularly that of Steve Reich. The result is a piece with a funky, haunting and very catchy groove.

The Myotis V project, composed with Anthony Laguerre, is a research project based on amplified drums, which allows inaudible sounds to be brought into play by amplifying them with microphones and reproducing them. Much more than a musical composition, Myotis V is a research process which, through the energy of rock, pushes the limits of the drums to their ultimate boundaries, creating a sound space which plays with the acoustics of each instrument, the amplification and the inversion of energies.
