Since 2017, Anthony Laguerre has started a research around the amplified drums with his solo Myotis. In this context, the first artistic gesture was to go towards the rock energy, which is the essence of the music he has been playing for 20 years.
In a second stage, he has long directed his research towards the pianissimo nuance. In seeking the opposite of his primary energy, he found a way to bring inaudible sounds into play by amplifying them with microphones. The addition of loudspeakers on the drums brought an extra dimension and enormously nourished the sound material. Playing these sounds very quickly made him want to hear them deployed, played and interpreted by other musicians. The project is to compose a piece for an ensemble of percussionists to have them play the whole range of possible sounds contained in this music.
Anthony Laguerre chose to work with the Percussions de Strasbourg, with the aim of going to the essential, to bring his vision of the sound of percussion and to transmit it. The Percussions de Strasbourg and their history offer an enormous field of research in terms of their immense technical skills of execution and the number of instruments they have at their disposal. Joining the Percussions de Strasbourg allows one to benefit from a singular listening experience, a particular way of playing and the discovery of a sound bank that is always in motion.
