YAMANE AKIKO – Trio (fluctuations)

Creation : 2006, Royaumont, France
Duration : 8′
For 3 percussionists

The initial project was the creation of sound images. During this residency with the percussions de Strasbourg, I had the opportunity to compose a new piece for trio with three different families of percussion instruments.

Each musician has a set made up of woods, or skins or metal, I have linked these three families to three sound images, wood-tempo, skins-fluctuations, metal-dynamic. Each sound image is worked so as to develop each timbre as much as possible. For each of them, it’s a certain way of altering the perception of each timbre. In the first section the woodwinds vary on the tempo, in the second section the skins work on the density and in the third section the metals modulate on the dynamics.

These three mixed sound images cause a polyphony of timbre and rhythm then gradually synchronize.
